Rep Riddle, you are going to loose our vote for introducing a bill similiar to AZ. Why can you people understand it is not the illegal alliens issue, we are all against illegal alliens and we think it is a crime to be in the US illegaly, BUT the Arizona bill will violate my rights as a US Citizen ( I am talking about US citizens ) by allowing the cops to ask for my papers just for looking hispanic !!!!!
And NO, I do not carry my papers ( birth cirtifcate ) with me all the time, and NO I do not carry my driver liscence with me all the time as it is only required when I drive.
So before you conservative start spinning the issues, it is not about defending the illegal, I care less about them, it is about uUS citizens who are Hispanic or many look Hispanics.
BTW Rep Riddle, when you visited Iraq, did you have a Visa, or your visit was illegal?
Klao – Please read the bill – It’s only two pages long. Or at least read the press release posted on this website.
“Unlike a similar act passed recently in Arizona, Riddle’s bill requires law enforcement to confirm the immigration status of a suspect with US Customs and Immigration Enforcement before making an arrest and does not require the suspect to produce identification.”
No one has to carry papers. No one can be arrested or harrassed because of skin color. This applies to all illegal immigrants who are breaking our laws, regardless of nationality. Our citizens do not have to “prove” anything. If you are caught committing a crime, law enforcement still cannot do anything about a persons immigration status unless Homeland Security or ICE can verify that you are in the country illegally.
Both english and spanish have been spoken in my family for at least four of the 12 generations we have lived in the great southwest. We are citizens of the US, we have paid our taxes, served our country in multiple wars with honor and some family members have lost their lives for this great country. We have served as honorable citizens in the public and private sector. Earned our bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees. We have joined in with our community to raise funds for charitable organizations which benefit all who need.
Divisive legislation of the nature proposed by Representative Riddle reduces all that this country stands for to the lowest common denominator. Discounts all the contributions that multiple cultures have made to our great land. It reminds me of times when my parents were refused service at a restaurant because my father’s skin color was an identifier to the restaurant owner that he was Spanish.
In tough economic times small people attempt to find a group who they can demonize and blame for all of their problems. I have faith that these same small people will be voted out of office.
God Bless the United States of America.
